View Full Version : Decisions. Decisions.

For most of my RPG days, i've wanted to be a Bard of sorts and with archeage that's a possibility. I'm stuck, However, on what I want to focus on.

a few options arise. although not entirely set up; they're more basic concept than anything.

*in order of Appeal*
Tanksauce [S&B] (http://arche-base.com/builds/view/590-Tank)
Musical Trolling [Flute or Lute] (http://arche-base.com/builds/view/591-CC_Bard)
Melee Gibber (http://arche-base.com/builds/view/585-Melee_Stealth)
Archer (http://arche-base.com/builds/view/586-Ranged)

on paper these fit how I would be playing in both PvP and PvE.

the problem is that this is all theory and based on my current understanding of how the game works without actually playing.

I guess the reason behind this post is to hopefully have somebody that has played tell me what they think would be more useful, with enough pushing I may be able to make a decision. T_T

also, tips on the builds are welcome.

*Updated:after some reading and suggestions, I reworked these two. the new bard dropped it's split focus and goes straight for CC now. the new tank swapped Devotion for combat and added some more AoE/CC/Damage.

WELP i can't really help u on the bard build but i want to play a bard also :P so i'm experimenting on builds but i have some experience with a tank..........and i took into account some skills you picked out assuming you want them either way for ex: twilight, scream of taunt etc so i kept those for u :D this is my version of that bodyguard build.
oh and you should use arche-base since it's a better skill calculator IMO and tells you combos you can use with your skills :D

ah, cool. wasn't aware of archebase. thanks for that.

You will have a very hard time keeping aggro with your Beefy Tank build. I'd suggest making a Soldier build that has more bursts of damage but still able to tank damage.

Check out this Soldier build and let me know what you think of it. Has a better chance to grab and hold aggro with it's AoE spells.

I kind of figured that the Aggro abilities would compensate for the smaller damage aggro. if that's not the case, then my decision may be made in favor of bard. I really would prefer being made of steel over being a bruiser.

I'd suggest checking out this thread and reading through the tank part if you'd like information more on the whole aggro problem.

good read. I wasn't aware that the aggro system wasn't fully balanced. I can only hope they can manage some fixes to that before US launch.

also the possibility of split stats for healing/magic kind of bothers me a bit. kind of waivers me off of bard.

seems every time there's a bard class in a game they manage to screw it up somehow, i do so hope they don't do that here.

damn. i'm going to hate myself if I become one of those Sorcerers that gib people because a lack of any favor towards my usual 2 choices. :\

Both classes and builds are terrible. Sorry if I'm being too frank but I believe that it's the point of the thread, no? With that said, I think I know how to answer your questions.

First of all, I don't believe a full support build is the best way to approach it because in some situations, dmg and crow control can be more useful. It's also a nightmare to lvl up a full support. So I don't really like builds like Priest (http://arche-base.com/builds/view/581-Priest).

I'm more of a Praetorian (http://arche-base.com/builds/view/533-Praetorian) type of person and I think it fits your play style as well since you can play instruments during a fight to greatly buff your allies while being very hard to kill. I believe that a support needs tankiness to protect themselves so they can baby sit others rather then having other babysit them. They also need some AOE crowd controls to prevent others from being aggressive onto them.

The one weakness that the build has is no mobility for when you get caught but you can use Invincibility to make yourself invincible for 12 secs.

That's all that I got for now but feel free to ask for more input when you figure out more specific questions.

no offense taken. you make valid points.

I enjoy the play style of the full support/full tank and only ever considered them for this game because i have friends that will be playing with me that have enough experience with mmo's that I feel confident to do so.

if I'm going to solo at all, i'm likely to play either stealthy or caster. the only reason i'm not doing that here is because i have done that for every game i've played for the last couple years and it gets a little repetitive, even if it is amazingly fun to sneak up on somebody and greet them with a blade.

inspired me to drop the heavily split focus on the bard build, thanks.

Well that ain't a bad build but I think you'll have to play around with it for awhile before coming up with the optimal build. My bet is that after playing the game for awhile you'll be using this same class for a very different purpose.
