Greetings,

I built the linked Bodyguard build.

http://arche-base.com/builds/view/566-Basic_Learning_of_Theroy

My goal for the character is a healer / support.

I realize the build has very little offensive capability, so I may not level with it, but I was wondering if anyone out there had done a bodyguard build and could help me understand what, if anything, I'm looking at wrong.

I'd take out Pain Killer in your Will tree and go for either Power of Life or Energy Wave. (Possibly meditation if you end up having mana problems in game.)

I already have Power of Life and Energy wave assigned in the build.

I was thinking about Meditation, but The Reward of the Patience (2 pt passive from Devotion) turns 7% of the incoming damage into mana, so hopefully that keeps the mana cycle flowing.

Pain Killer is one of the best skills in the Will tree. 3% resistance to all type of dmgs is already very cost efficient for 1 point and throw on top of the the 2nd passive and you have a great passive.

To the OP, what is the build for? Because if it is for PVP then mana is the least thing you'll be worrying about unless you're using a build that just gulps up mana which is rarely the case.

My goal was to design sort of a AOE buffing character that could help one side stand off against another side. Took a lot of things that help negate magic users (Devotion & Wing of Defense) as well as enough heals to be useful to keeping people alive.

Trying to be as useful as I can when it comes to the large scale PvP fights. Be somewhere in the middle and help give my side an edge without putting a giant bulls-eye on myself.

Well your build is not the best at doing what you want. First and foremost Wing of Defense is not as good as a skill for you to make build around it. It can only block Magic dmg and you have to channel it which make you an easy target for Archers and Melees. What you'll ultimately become is just a tanky healer.

Let me break down a few things before you decide for yourself the kind of class that you want to be. What typically happens in this game when a big fight break out is that they'll be a separation between the 2 sides. Archers and Mages will fire at whoever is in range meanwhile the melees are too afraid to move in, so most of them will use Lasso to pull an enemy into their side. Some tank will initiate and put up a Force Field to zone out the ranged classes and basically put up a fighting ring for some sparring inside the ring. Anyone who initiates will leave themselves vulnerable and will be bursted down unless they have some form of good disengages. If you can visualize the image then you'll figure out that there are only a few ways to impact the fight.

One way is to have a really good mobility skill like Blink or Shadowstep so you can instantly get in enemy territories and pull off a big aoe CC combo. You can also do this with a Meteor combo but it's a bit telegraphed since you have to cast the spell and there's a visual animation before the Meteor actually hits anything.

The other way is to buff your allies with the Artistry tree. The aoe buffs and CC break from the Artistry tree is really great for a large fight.

There are three builds that I think is great for your playstyle.

Praetorian (http://arche-base.com/builds/view/533-Praetorian)

Playwright (http://arche-base.com/builds/view/589-Playwright)

Apostle (http://arche-base.com/builds/view/539-Apostle)

I appreciate the time you took explaining that, and more so for taking the time to share the builds.

I'll be looking over this and trying to figure out which path to go down.
