View Full Version : Templar - Healer? Tank? Tanky healer? Healer tank?!

I was just curious how other people play their templars, for nothing more than idle curiosity and love of the class, I suppose. I find this a really fun build, since it has versatility in being both a tank AND a healer or a mix of both depending on skill points and gear, and unlike some cookie cutter classes, you can actually play with the skill point allocation quite a lot without becoming a derp build.

So how do you play YOUR templar? Full heals? More tank? A mix of both?

Personally I play as a pleasant mix of healer and tank if in pvp, leaning more toward the tank spectrum since that is my main build (abolisher/templar/skullknight - any of those 3 normally). I play in epherium earth plate/cloth depending on the class composition of my enemies and try to use my tankiness to my advantage by getting smack in the middle of action/focus.

I love Templar when doing Group v Group situations :D I typically play CareTaker, but my guild has been advising me to get use to being a main healer that has high survivability.

I play Templar with a build like such http://http://arche-base.com/builds/generator#3.10.4/HTxltPU7xUl1 (http://arche-base.com/builds/generator#3.10.4/HTxltPU7xUl1) .

I focus on healin and being able to survive high burst Dps. I wear Mag Stone Cloth with a shield and club. I like this build because I get around 35-40% damage reduction in both magic and physical attacks, anti trip, anti stun, invincibility, heals, and a bit of movement with TP. Depending on the situation, the only thing I change would be Mend for Revive.

I love being able to stand in the front lines and laugh at all the people attacking me as they tickle me with their arrows. >:D

I play it as a main healer. Well basically our guild leader is a over geared tank, who tanks with a templar for PvE so I am just healing him. Basically if you would like to tank in PvE you need some rly good gear - both cloth and plate sets. In PvP he changes to a tank with occultims so basically we both tank, but I take care of my hp and his hp. So yeah in order to tank with a templar you do need a good amount of gear. For PvP everyone with defense can initiate basically or put imprisons.

I play it as a main healer too, but I find myself tanking very often as ppl always go for me.

This is the build I use: http://arche-base.com/builds/generator#3.10.4/pTx1tCgj2sl1

i play paladin for my main but i played Templar for a while and it was a lot of fun i have 2 questions though why would you use renewal InariTheCareTaker and why would you not have shield bash bull rush Okamoto just wondering.

For renewal, I have it because I am typically in the front front with the tanks. I ONLY use renewal on diving tanks and archer focused tanks because the proc is strong when a tank is getting tickled by endless arrows that do barely any damage to themin the first place xD

My build:

Primary focus is survivability with heals remaining important.

Important skills:

I use stone cloth so getting the 7 points into defense for the extra +700 def really helps me.

I really like absorb damage, because I like to jump around and look like a juicy target and it helps sustain my own heals.

Use redoubt + liberation and you are pretty much invincible while the skills are active.

Shrug it off + revitalizing cheer to not waste your other healing skills.

Teleportation is one of the most useful skills in the game both for surviving and getting in range of people to heal them. Use it.

If you are up against a lot of archers switch out liberation for inspiration cloak.

Use mend to heal people stuck in imprison.

Keep resurgence and mirror light up on people who look like they might receive damage soon - especially good if you can dispel stalker's mark.

Get in the habit of always keeping thwart up - you need to do it so much that it becomes second nature do you.

Conversion shield + antithesis is your most important combo, if someone nearby you has died and conversion shield is not on cooldown, you have failed as a healer.

Get boastful roar if you want to do some lol damage kill stealing, and troll people by getting 3 kills 0 deaths in 5v5's.

As a main healer I don't feel like sacrificing any of the other skills for those 2. If/when the level cap is removed though, I might put one of the two.
