Whyen you hear the words obsidian weapon, do you know immediately perk up and respond with an exuberant overjoyous "YES DADDY?!" Do your lewd parts not froth and shiver in eager anticipation of duels yet to come? Yet how is one to obtain such Weaponry of Amazement? What exactly is the process? what is the estimated gold spendage? how will they affect classes?

Rumors ive heard :D

1. Obsidian Shortspear will replace all 1handed clubs.

2. Mages will cast away their sticks of power, in favor of new Int daggers for dual wield bonus/attack speed.

If anybody can provide detailed information on these weapons i would be much obliged :D

Excited about being able to play Inquisitor with the shortspear. I like playing Battlerage - Shadowplay - X classes a lot. I'm mostly a 1s player and I've played them all numerous times. I play Darkrunner as a main but the rest I try for fun. Inquisitor, Hellweaver and Outider were the only three I couldn't make work.

Also excited about the Katana, might be able to work Hellweaver as well.

The obsidian shortspear and katana both have less power than true 1h clubs or scepters, the latter will still be preferred by pure mages and healers.

sorry but you are wrong.
Obsidian t5 katana: http://archeagedatabase.net/us/item/34673/
Delphinad scepter: http://archeagedatabase.net/us/item/31304/

the obsidian katana has the same base dmg that a dekph katana has and for a mage the magic damage and stats are IDENTICAL.

What does a tier 6 require? Salvaged Ayanad?

No, he's right. As a pure Mage, running sorc and witchcraft as my main skills, that katana is worse than my T3 unique staff. It has lower magic attack, and only stamina.

The katana is great for someone mixing magic and melee damage, not for pure mages.

The same goes for scepters. Scepters are great if you want to carry a shield and use def. or just to boost your phy def. if the goal is to max magic damage, you don't use a scepter.

Yes, maybe Ayanad is hard to get, but it IS strictly better.

Not for hybrid classes. But yes, if you play Darkrunner or Abolisher, Ayanad is BiS.

Keep in mind those Katanas have cast time reduction, something Ayanad doesn't give. So it becomes a game of attacking faster vs doing more damage.

its much easier to get an obsidian weapon past divine then it is to an upgradable delphinad or ayanad

This totally depends on your preferences though. Im going to use the katana and a dagger for the increased attack speed and decreased GCDT. a katana has less attack speed then a scepter, this is why I shoose the katana ( and the cast time will help me alot)
A good mage is going to have a weapon for every situation, after I have gotten my t5 katana Im going to get a decent shield and a GOOD staff

^ This.

Get an obsidian tier 1 up to Epic (it will probably break a few tier 1 weapons) and then upgrade to tier 5 obsidian. Then you have a weapon that's just slightly less dps than the celestial ayanad equivalant

Have you looked at the obsidian shield stats? I'm pretty sure it's BiS for every class (even better than Ayanad IMO). So OP.

In your opinion, is T5 obsidian shield > Ayanad? I haven't seen too many other comments on the shield yet, but it just seems like it's a whole tier above Ayanad. For comparison's sake:

(Divine) Long Anticipation (T5):

2187 Physical Defense (Max Tempered)
87 Stamina

Vs

(Divine) Ayanad Earth Shield:

1763.62 Physical Defense (Max Tempered)
95 Stamina

So superior pdef vs more hp. I guess at that point it's just a matter of preference

Yes, but there is one other thing to consider, it's much easier to get obsidian to divine that it is to get Ayanad to divine. Additionally, you can still take that shield up to T6. It's pretty crazy when you think about it.

Somewhat confused with this post, If you upgrade T1 to epic, then turn in your T1 Epic for T2, it wont keep the grade valve because its a totally new weapon? New name, stats and all, so why would you upgrade T1?

its the same as crafting any other weapon, stays the same with a small chance to go up to the next grade. (still not sure if that applies above celestial) so your essentially divine+ing an illustrious, then WITHOUT rng, bringing it to the delphinad tier and above

Yea it's pretty cool because you can afford to break illustrious weapons for a shot at an epic, or at the very least Divine. The most expensive part is gonna be the regrading costs, not the weapon itself, and they're cheaper regrades too because it's a lower level weapon.

No Obsidian Dagger is Agi and +Ranged Crit Damage.

He was talk about just having one with int on it in offhand. None of the crafted ones have int. But offhand is just a stat item. So something like Pure White Flame dagger could be used as well if you wanted.

Dagger's Penetration Chance ability is an Attack Speed Boost. You can use this to reduce your GCD even more allowing you to go through different casts faster as well as animations.
