I reported to the support team via the website that I had made a payment through Steam which was not showing up ingame. I subsequently received an email telling me I needed to contact Steam support to resolve this issue. I set up the support account with Steam and again reported the problem to them. 5 days later and still no response so I flagged up the same problem once again.

Since no currency has arrived should I just forget about it and ask for a refund instead? In every other online game I have played I have been credited instantly when making a payment. I am not happy with the lack of support on this issue.

If it was a Steam Wallet transaction then you'll need to contact Valve as it's not anything to do with Trion's systems.
