Merge Questions & Answers/Diamond Shores Information: Consolidated

    Good evening everyone!

It's our final hours before we begin the merge, and we wanted to get as much information as we could wrapped up into one thread for everyone to read. The information below will be organized into separate portions including how we classify servers, before the merge, during the merge, after the merge, Diamond Shores information, and information for the new Fresh Start servers. If you're looking for a specific topic, find the section that relates to you!

Now, without any further delay, let's get into it.

    Server Classification

After the evolution is complete, our servers will be broken down into three categories:

Legacy Servers are those servers that are not affected by the merge. These servers include examples such as Kyrios, Aranzeb, Shatigon, Eanna and more.

Evolution Servers are all of the servers impacted by the server merges. The new Evolution servers will include Kraken, Hanure, Nazar, Anthalon, Sirothe, and Leviathan. These servers will be created by combining two other servers together.

Fresh Start Servers are brand new servers where players will have to create new characters and re-level starting at level 1. These servers are also separated and exist on their own Auction House clusters, so they are not impacted by prior ArcheAge events. These servers are Morpheus on North America and Rangora on Europe.

    Before The Maintenance

First of all, from tonight onwards, we recommend that players on Evolution Servers do not continue to run trade packs. While your trade pack mail reward may make it to you on your new server, we do not have a 100% guarantee that you will receive your reward in the mail due to the structure of the maintenance. Legacy servers are much more likely to receive their mail, as your mail will not be removed or changed, but you will run trade packs at your own risk.

Before the servers are merged, you should perform some final due diligence on your inventories and land. This includes the following:
    • Items that are super important to you should be stored directly in your Inventory or Warehouse. They should not be stored in a chest. While items in chests will be returned to you via the in-game mail system, it's better to be safe than sorry!
    • Your house must not be demolished before the servers are shut down for maintenance tomorrow. If your house is demolished before that point, you will not receive it back as a full kit. This includes Evolution servers and anyone who owns land in Diamond Shores.
    • During the maintenance, we will carry out a standard demolish on all buildings and items. If you leave an item in place that is normally destroyed during a demolish, it will be destroyed during the maintenance. If you want to keep it, make sure it's in your inventory or warehouse, or in a chest under the normal rules stated on the chest. If you really want to make sure you keep it, steer clear of the chest and keep it in your inventory or warehouse.
    • If you own a beehive, uproot it! We'll compensate your beehive via in-game mail and you'll have it back after the maintenance is complete.
    • Trade packs such as phonographs will be saved if you place them on your back. Choose wisely with what you want to save.
    • If you have a Purified Archeum Pack on your back, it will be removed during the maintenance in order to keep things fair.

If you are planning to create a character on a Fresh Start server, make sure you have an extra character slot open! If you are at your character max, you will not be able to participate in that server!

    During the Maintenance

After ArcheAge goes offline for our 48 hour maintenance, the following will occur on Legacy Servers:
    • Diamond Shores houses will be demolished and returned to you as a full kit in the mail. Items that are normally destroyed in a demolish situation will be destroyed if not placed into your inventory, warehouse, or a chest (up to the chest's limit, as described by the chest.) Items that will be destroyed are marked with a warning explaining they will be destroyed in a demolish. Full kits do not have a build process, nor do they require construction items. They do, however, cost taxes to place.
    • Chests will be sent back to you in the mail and you can retrieve them upon logging back in.
    • Characters will be sent a Diamond Soul compensation pack for their land loss.

The following will occur on Evolution Servers:
    • We will snapshot the servers the moment they are brought offline. All of your progress up to that exact point will be saved.
    • All characters who did not transfer to a Legacy server will be merged. There is no minimum level to be merged.
    • All houses will be demolished and returned to you as a full kit. Full kits do not have a build process, nor do they require construction items. They do, however, cost taxes to place.
    • Your custom teleport locations will be removed. You will retain your permanent teleport book locations (those marked by Memory Tomes) and you will retain your Recall spell location.
    • Your chests will be returned to you in the mail, and that will include the items stored in said chest.
    • Your custom Crest Inks will not make it over in the Evolution, but we will compensate you for your lost crests in Crest Brainstorms, so you can remake your crests on your new server.
    • Your characters will be compensated with different packs depending on what you owned on your original world. Evolution affected land owners will be compensated with the Worldwalker Pack. Castle owners will be compensated with the Northern Legion pack. Diamond Shores owners on all worlds will be compensated with the Diamond Soul pack. The exact way these packs will be distributed, and their contents, will be discussed on Thursday. We understand players have data-mined these packs, but we would like to reinforce that these packs do not make up all of the compensation we will be offering. Our post-Evolution event, Hero's Welcome, is also a part of our compensation plan.
    • Patrons will continue to accrue labor, but it will not total 48 hours. The servers will be up and down during this period of time as we work on the databases and server structure, and this will cause labor to accrue inconsistently. We are unable to offer an exact determination of how much labor players will receive. Additionally, labor potions will be a portion of our compensation packages.
    • The tutorial will be disabled on all worlds to ease the flow of players into the game.
    • Sheet music will transfer without issue.
    • All guilds will be disbanded on Evolution servers. You will have to recreate your guild after logging in, and you will be subject to the 100 player cap featured in Update 2.0.
    • All Castle ownership will be revoked. Upon the launch of Evolution servers, there will be no lords in the castles. This means areas of Auroria outside of Diamond Shores and Golden Ruins will not be eligible for land ownership until players upgrade their Diamond Shores Faction Fortress to Rank 3 and craft a Purified Archeum Trade Pack. You will not be able to craft that pack until the Fortress has been built up to Rank 3. You can build your fortress by participating in quests in the Diamond Shores region.
    • Our Auction House clusters will be reorganized. To see what servers will be paired together, please read this article.

    Q. Why are you deploying Update 2.0 and the Evolution at the same time?

A few players have asked this, and there have been comments that this is a lot to do at the same time! It is a lot to do, but it is also the easier way to perform these types of changes. Had we not performed our Evolutions and Update 2.0 at the same time, we would have had to change people's guilds twice in a row and cause two separate land rushes, one for the Evolution and then another due to the Diamond Shores land changes in Update 2.0. No one wants to land rush twice, or have their guilds disbanded, remade, and then disbanded again. It made more sense to do this all at the same time so we'd only have one united land rush and one set of guild restructuring.

    Q. Are you disabling certain items from the Marketplace/in-game recipes?

Yes. For two weeks after September 12, the following items will be removed from the in-game marketplace on all servers. (If you own one of these items, you will keep it. This will only stop new players from purchasing them for two weeks. Looking at you, Fresh Start servers.)
    • Lunar Scarecrow Farm
    • Majestic Tree
    • Mining Drill
    • Rumbling Archeum Tree Saplings
    • Explorer’s Chest
    • Merchant’s Chest.

We will also disable the in-game recipes to create Tier 2 and Tier 3 Hasla weapons in order to preserve balance at the launch of the Fresh Start servers. If you own one of these weapons on a Legacy or Evolution server, you will retain it as normal. This will only stop the creation of new weapons.

After the maintenance / Server Opening

We are currently targeting 1:00 PM PDT / 8:00 PM GMT / 10:00 PM CEST on Saturday, September 12, for our re-opening all servers, both North American and European. We will not open the servers earlier than this time, but we may push back their opening if we need more time to perform our maintenance and update.

As a note, GameGuard will not be included with this update.

After the merge is completed and our Update is done, the following will occur on Legacy servers:
    • The servers will re-open, and players on Diamond Shores will have to reclaim their land in a land rush. The newly revitalized Diamond Shores now features separate land areas for each faction. There are no boundaries for where you can put your house, but we recommend not placing them in front of enemy encampments, like cannons. That may hurt.
    • If your guild was over 100 members, all members have been removed. Your guild leader has retained ownership of the guild, and your guild name. They will be able to immediately reinvite up to 100 players back into the guild. The rules in place that discourage "guild hopping" will be temporarily disabled while players reform their guilds under this new cap.
    • If your guild was under 100 members, your guild will not change, but you will not be able to invite more than 100 players in accordance with changes made in Update 2.0 for Guild Leveling and Guild Dominion.
    • Players who uprooted their beehives will find they have been compensated their beehives via in-game mail.
    • Other areas of the world will not change and you will retain your land. It's the usual operating procedure.
    • You will receive packs in the in-game mail of your highest leveled character as a part of our Player Appreciation event, Hero's Welcome. More information on those packs and how you can turn your temporary Royal Griffin mount into a permanent mount will offered in a new article later this week.

The following will occur on Evolution servers:
    • Should there be a login queue due to high login volume, priority will be given to ArcheAge patrons.
    • Upon selecting your character, you may be asked to rename if your name was found in conflict with someone else from the other merging server. If you are in conflict (for example, if players on Inoch and Calliel both have the name Archeagebob), the player who had the name for the longer amount of time will keep the name. The newer player will have to rename themselves.
    • After logging in and loading, your character will be set back to their racial starting zone. If you are a pirate, you will start on Growlgate Isle.
    • All continental conflict zones will be placed into 24 hours of peace to help make sure you can settle in. Auroria and Ocean zones are not included.
    • The Update 2.0 safe housing system will be turned on. For more information on that system, see the patch notes here. If you're not a fan of that system or if you love it to bits, leave your feedback here.
    • All of your houses will be returned to you in the mail as a full kit, as well as your chests and chest items, as noted above. Seek a Post Owl to retrieve your belongings.
    • Make sure to retrieve your mail, as we were not able to extend the length of mails before they are deleted. If you leave your stuff in your mailbox, it will be removed from the game after the usual 30 day period.
    • You will be able to place down houses equal to all of your full kits plus two unbuilt designs. As PTS testers found, you should place your full kits first, and then your unbuilt designs second. Should you put down your unbuilt designs first, you will be prevented from placing further structures. All housing placements will cost taxes. After a full kit is built, it is treated like a normal home. Should it be removed, it will become a design once more and will require a construction period.
    • Full kits and items placed into your inventory will last forever. Full kits will be bound to you, so you will be unable to trade them to others. You will not be able to deconstruct full kits, but you can destroy them, if you so choose.
    • GMs will be keeping their eye on the servers. Should they see any teleport hacks, land hacks, or other types of botting/cheating, they will issue an immediate and permanent ban and they will immediately demolish the homes that were placed. Don't do it!
    • Events will continue on their normal pattern with the exception of Abyssal Attack, which has been changed in Update 2.0. If you'd like to learn more about the events and their times, we encourage you to use the new Event Calendar interface in Update 2.0.
    • There will be no owners of castles. In order to claim a castle, you will need to rank up your faction's Diamond Shores fortress, as noted above.
    • You will have to reform your guilds at this time.
    • You will receive your compensation packs in your in-game mail. As noted above, we will be offering more detail on these packs on Thursday.
    • You will receive a pack of items in the mail of your highest leveled character. These items make up part of our compensation to all players for the stress of the Evolution process and are a part of our Hero's Welcome event. The other part of the compensation will be your compensation packs.
    • Some of, but not all of, your pre-existing, pre-evolution mail will be available.
    • Character creation will be enabled, and new players will be able to create new characters. Should we see character creation impacting queues, we will disable it.

The following will occur on Fresh Start servers:
    • You will create a new character, make them look awesome, and then dive into the world of Erenor once more.
    • If you are a Founder who has not made your first 6 characters, you will receive your Founders items as promised to you in the Founder's Pack.
    • The items listed above in the "During the Merge" segment will be disabled for two weeks. They will be re-introduced back into the game/Marketplace after this time, and that will include the "Fresh Start" servers.
    • Players will be able to use labor potions and loyalty gathered on other servers to power their labor. We are aware this is an issue for some players, but there is no way to stop this sharing of resources with the way the game is structured. We looked for a way to change this, but we were unable to find a solution.
    • You will be subject to the Update 2.0 guild rules and castle construction rules.
    • Auroria will be available from the start. Good luck.
    • Events will continue on their normal cadence, with the exception of Abyssal Attack, which is being changed in Update 2.0.
    • The level 15 restriction on talking in global channels will be in place, as it is on other servers.
    • We are currently not planning to offer transfers or move Morpheus & Rangora over into the other server clusters. Transfers and un-isolating the Auction House are off the table at this time.
    • Morpheus & Rangora characters are exempt from Hero's Welcome packages. Only characters created prior to Morpheus & Rangora qualify to receive packages. This has been done to keep these new characters all at the same level of power.

    Q. Will you block land sales after the maintenance?
No, land sales will not be blocked and will proceed as normal on all servers.

    Q. Why did we choose not to allow transfers between servers instead of doing a full merge?
The primary purpose of the merge is to increase the base level population of low population servers that were added to support the rush associated with launch. If we allowed transfers from low population servers, we would essentially sentence that community to a slow death. If the logistics behind how the merge will occur were any more difficult, we may have had to consider that as an option. ArcheAge is a community-focused game and that isn’t the kind of experience we would like players on low population servers to have.

    Q. What kind of assurance can we have that we won't be faced with another server merge in another year's time?
We can never be 100% sure it’ll never happen again but after the merges and Heroes Awaken update, we’ll work to build automated transfers. Automated transfers will allow greater flexibility with cross-server migrations and population management. We will always do what is best for the long term health of the game, but we do understand that these changes have caused frustration.

    Q. When can we expect to see the automated transfer system?
While it will be worked on, it will not be fully implemented for some time. Look for it early next year, at the earliest.

    Q. As a patron, am I receiving any compensation in patron time for this maintenance?
Yes! As a part of our Hero's Welcome event, all patrons will receive +7 days patron time to compensate for the outage.

I was just wondering if we could get the goal Trion had in mind when allowing players to transfer from low population servers to high population server?

I play on Lucius and will be going to Nazar, but a large amount of players from both Lucius and Ezi transferred to Kyrios and other servers.

Now the server (Nazar) is looking at the same population that Lucius and Ezi had pre-evolution.

Does Trion have any plans on helping the populations of the lower population servers? Since the for servers like Nazar, we are still low population because you allowed a majority to transfer off before Nazar was created.

I don't understand this and would love to hear the answer to this. You did allow people to transfer from low population servers...

So, to be clear, we've monitored the data closely regarding transfers. While everyone keeps saying, "So many people took a transfer," that's actually not what happened. Some facts from our side:

    1. No high population server hit one of our pre-determined population caps. Not even Kyrios, which received a bulk of the transfers when compared to other servers in both North America and Europe.
    2. In total, only about 1% of active characters who were impacted by the Evolution elected to transfer to a new server.
    3. The Evolution impacted servers have remained in the population range we are looking for, even after the transfers were completed.

So, let's be more specific. You will end up on Nazar. Using our most recent population data, which is post-transfers, when I add yesterday's active playing population of both Ezi and Lucius (which is Nazar), your server will have an active population that is comparable to post-transfer Aranzeb and Kyrios. And remember, Kyrios received the bulk of our transfers, and Nazar still has a similar population range. The same holds true for all of the other evolution servers.

I hope that sheds some light on the situation, and dispels the myth that "everyone took the transfer." They really did not.

That question discusses the idea of only allowing transfers and never doing a merge. Had we done that, players would have slowly trickled off the server, and the players that remained would eventually have very few other players to play with and would slowly be unable to participate in more and more content. That's what we mean by slow death. People would not transfer off in a great burst, as one would expect.

I am translating all ArcheAge related info to Polish and post it on my blog. LINK

@Celestrata, what if something happens and you will have to open servers later than planned? Does it mean I, as an European player, will have to be up all night and wait for the answer or you will open EU servers the next day and announce it earlier?

I got a question concerning the Depth packs currently for sale. Will you be able to use them on the Fresh servers and thus still having a majestic tree available on the Fresh server?
