Several Daily Quests Need To Be Adjusted

Due to the depopulation of the Legacy Servers that has been going on for a while, hastened by the Fresh Start Launch; the prices of many base materials has been steadily increasing. This, combined with the massive deflation of Gilda Star value that occurred when Merit Badges were deprecated, has caused the rewards from several daily quests to fall below the costs of completing them.

Prices are taken from AH 7-day averages or current listings, whichever was lowest on May 7, 2018:

    Blue Salt Request: Aromatics

    Azalea x100 @ 3s05c/unit = 3g05s00c
    Rosemary x40 @ 12s98c/unit = 5g19s20c
    Mint x40 @ 7s99c/unit = 3g19s60c

    Total Cost = 11g43s80c

    Reward:

    5g00s00c
Gilda Star x1(approximately 1g00s00c value) OR Rainbow Sprinkler x3(approximately 6.5s value)

    Max Total Reward = 6g00s00c

    Difference = -5g43s80c

    Blue Salt Request: Preserves

    Carrot x100 @ 4s74c/unit = 4g74s00c
    Strawberry x40 @ 8s98c/unit = 3g59s20c
    Yam x40 @ 12s00c/unit = 4g80s0c

    Total Cost = 13g13s20c

    Reward:

    5g00s00c
Gilda Star x1(approximately 1g00s00c value) OR Rainbow Sprinkler x3(approximately 6.5s value)

    Max Total Reward = 6g00s00c

    Difference = -7g13s20c

The value of the reward for the next 3 is a bit harder to pin down, as they require a set amount of labor to accomplish.
The best approximation I could get was to use the average amount of gold I get when I sell the contents of an Ancestral Crate straight to NPCs. I average about 10s/labor @ 48 labor/crate(230k proficiency), or around 4g80s/crate. Extrapolating to 0 proficiency(80 labor/crate), this gives a labor value of about 6s/labor.

    Bugira's Gift(Hearty Meal)

    Chicken Meat x15 @ 16s35c/unit = 2g45s25c
    Mushroom x15 @ 4s02c/unit = 60s30c
    Rice x50 @ 3s19c/unit = 1g59s50c
    Garlic x25 @ 3s37c/unit = 84s25c
    Labor x40 @ 6s00c/unit = 2g40s00c

    Total Cost = 7g89s30c

    Reward:

    5g00s00c
    Gilda Star x1(approximately 1g00s00c value)
    Vocation Badges x300(approximately 1g58s97c value)

    Max Total Reward = 7g58s97c

    Difference: -30s33c

    Bugira's Gift(Premium Hearty Meal)

    Duck Meat x15 @ 14s92c/unit = 2g23s80c
    Thistle x20 @ 3s24c/unit = 64s80c
    Rice x50 @ 3s19c/unit = 1g59s50c
    Garlic x25 @ 3s37c/unit = 84s25c
    Labor x40 @ 6s00c/unit = 2g40s00c

    Total Cost = 7g72s35c

    Reward:

    5g00s00c
    Gilda Star x1(approximately 1g00s00c value)
    Vocation Badges x300(approximately 1g58s97c value)

    Max Total Reward = 7g58s97c

    Difference: -13s38c

    Bugira's Gift(Rare Hearty Meal)

    Goose Meat x15 @ 20s00c/unit = 3g00s00c
    Cultivated Ginseng x15 @ 24s00c/unit = 3g60s00c
    Rice x50 @ 3s19c/unit = 1g59s50c
    Garlic x25 @ 3s37c/unit = 84s25c
    Labor x40 @ 6s00c/unit = 2g40s00c

    Total Cost = 11g43s75c

    Reward:

    5g00s00c
    Gilda Star x1(approximately 1g00s00c value)
    Vocation Badges x300(approximately 1g58s97c value)

    Max Total Reward = 7g58s97c

    Difference = -3g84s78c

    Bugira's Gift(Special Hearty Meal)

    Clubhead Fungus x5 @ 18s00c/unit = 90s00c
    Saffron x15 @ 16s00c/unit = 2g40s00c
    Corn x50 @ 3s88c/unit = 1g94s00c
    Tomato x25 @ 3s29c/unit = 82s25c
    Labor x40 @ 6s00c/unit = 2g40s00c

    Total Cost = 8g46s25c

    Reward:

    5g00s00c
    Gilda Star x1(approximately 1g00s00c value)
    Vocation Badges x300(approximately 1g58s97c value)

    Max Total Reward = 7g58s97c

    Difference = -87s28c

For all of these, even if I grow and harvest the mats myself, I'd make more money simply selling the stuff on the AH, rather than using it to complete the quest.

Even though some of these seem to appear to nearly break even, this is only because I've used a lower labor value than what I usually average to illustrate what an average player can expect. At 10s-17s/labor(my usual range), the difference is much bigger.

There are several possible ways to address this:

    1. Decrease Material/Labor costs
    2. Increase Gold/Gilda/Vocation Badge payout
    3. Increase material harvesting yields to push prices lower
    4. Add multiple new high-demand tradeable items to the Gilda Star Shop to re-inflate Gilda Star value

I'm personally a fan of the #4 option, as our Gilda Star Shop has been badly neglected for nearly a year. Read This Post for my reasoning on why Trion shares just as much blame as XL does for that issue.

i think your best bet foe gilda these days is the quests you get at blue salt guys at community centers in hostile zones. a gold per quest, no labor no farming.. just kill a few mobs, get a gilda. i assume these are on legacy as well?

Why would I want more Gilda Stars when Trion and XL are obviously neglecting that particular shop?

It hasn't had an update in nearly a year.

I used to do these quests for the combined ~1k easy gold per month; the Gilda used to sell for enough to cover the mats.

Now even the combined value of gold and Gilda doesn't cover the cost.

Like many games, the developers were shortsighted and did not take into account the player value of items and such. These rewards reflect the npc value of items, which is almost nothing because players need them more than npcs.

I agree. I think that dailies (merit quests) in general should be buffed. Even getting 5-10g for up to 5g in teleport costs makes the profit so low that usually its not worth the bother...
