AAU : Servers dedicated for merges

    Hi,
i've just watched the livestream from last friday. And there is something that clicked in my mind about servers and that there will be potentially more of them coming.

As Khrolan said, archeage is not designed to have "channels" or "megaserver" like others MMos out there, due to the fact that Archeage have a housing systems and open world (bosses for instances) that prevent this to happen.

There is a question tho, we all know that during fresh start launchs, there are a lot of traffics.. but as even khrolan confirmed, this is only for a month top that we will be getting high queue.
This is a problem since gears is no longer RNG but time gated... Meaning the more time you spend in queue, the more gap you're going to get with thoses that manages to play.
so why not create a server where it is stated that it'll merge in 3-5months with an other existing server?or even several? (like when it is decided to merge, you could chose to join any server, given there is a restriction if too many people goes to one).

Make like a popup showing when selecting the server, detailling everything about what this will implies (losing houses and perhaps name priority..).
This way people will have no excuse to choose this server...allowing thoses that want to play to not sit for hours for queues.

Some may tell me that this will be a free farm server. to this i answer that in 3months people will not have enough ressources to kill most rewarding bosses like Delphinads ships (as people will funnel all their golds into their stuff at first)...

I think most people doesn't care about lands, especially at starts and with this update where trading is not that efficient. What they care about tho is to not fall behind.

Dunno why this hasn't been done for all the previous fresh start launch.. Maybe i didn't see everything through, so let me know if there is a flow to it.

I think many players already view servers as "merge servers" due to Trion's history. Gamingo is trying to avoid future server merges and is being cautious this time around. At launch, three servers are confirmed and more will be put in if the demand is there.

The majority of players hate server merges because most are invested in their land, having worked hard to obtain it, upkeep it and make lots of gold using it.

Because merges stink. Land rushes and having to package up your homes and belongings and then find new land and put it all back out is a major pain in the butt. I think it costs them lots of time having staff around to do it too.

    please read my post one more time;

This server i've described would not cater to thoses that values housing since there would be a popup noticing that this server would be destined to merge (hence you know what you're joining). so losing your houses and lands is fair game.
I mean if you join this kind of server you'll not dedicated yourself to the housing system and wait for the merge to happens.. in the meantime you'll have plenty of time to spend on your gear.

This would be a terrible idea. Archeage is meant to be competitive. Yes, queues are horrible, but what you are suggesting would lead to something far worse. It isn't just about housing. The main issue is the disparity this would cause in endgame content and gearing. There would be so many people who would dodge to quieter, "merge-inc" servers just to try freefarm gear and worldbosses. They would go, farm, and then eventually merge into the servers that actually had to compete for gear. While those types of players do tend to be worse skill wise than people who go upfront for competition, if they have significantly more players with higher gear and worldboss items, it doesn't matter how good their competition is. Where is the fun in that? Even a zerg of overgeared potatoes with worldboss items can still roll over more skilled pvpers if the pvpers have less numbers, less gear, and less worldboss items. You'd basically be punishing people who actually wanted to play the game as its meant to be played... competively. With our current 3 servers, these will all be filled enough that there will be competition on every server. We don't need nor should have "merge-inc" servers.

while i do agree, do you really think that there is a "freefarm" possible in the first month ? then they could merge right after a month.

I mean to freefarm you'll need a boat (which takes long enough to get ), and you'll need gear (which will take long enough to get).
i dunno how you think people can possibly freefarm in that short time windows?

No, but it would not be realistic for them to do something like this for only a month. Too much work required for it on their end. And if you made it any longer than a month, then there would definitely be a disparity. A month of not having to deal with queues while a more competitive server does have to deal with queues does make a big difference in just regular gear too.

We don't know that for sure. Merges seems to be easier to do nowadays especially after all thoses they already did. they have the tools and systems needed to make the procedure goes as easy as it goes.

Also freefarm is quite an outdated word for AA. I mean what is there to freefarm besides DGS and abyssal ? Everything else is below your hiram gear or instanced (library). For hiram you'll have to just go and kill some mobs (dunno how freefarm could be used here). As for DGS you'll need some good and heavy upgraded ships which would take months to make(there is no charcoal available, scrolls or any other components needed to even craft one piece of ship).. especially when the top priority for players are their own gear before ships.

Now what is "freefarming" to me is a person able to log in and find ways to stay online (and we all know they are), while someone else is waiting for queue each day.
The real farm is timegated now.

I'm thinking you have never farmed Hiram before.

If you think spending even a couple hours in a que is going to have ANY effect on your GS, vs those who got in earlier, you are mistaken.

hence why i was asking different point of view regarding this matter.. And not just "LuLz DeAd SeRvEr" or "FrEeFaRm".

Care to detail your view, i'm higly intrigued.
